CALGARY – Jenna Bower would score the Dinos' first goal of the season in the 69th minute; however, it was too little too late. A very strong offensive first half from the Vikes led to them improving to 2-0-2 on the season with a 5-1 win over the Dinos (0-2-0).

Starting slow yesterday, the Dinos had an improved start in today's game, earning the games first penalty corner. A good early blocker save from Vikes goalie Robin Fleming was the only thing that stood in the way of the Dinos getting off to an early lead.

Vikes Lindsay Cole was one of the standouts from this weekend's set of games, as she tallied three goals in the two games. Cole's two first half goals in the 5th and 29th minutes helped set the tone for the Vikes. Victoria captain Stef Langkammer would add her own first half goal in the 22nd minute, and the Vikes would take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Dinos' offence started to click, leading to a number of good scoring chances. Melanie Scholz and Lauren Hayes both had very strong games on the right side, working well together to set up a number of chances for the Dinos. Scholz had a great shot from the top of the circle off of a penalty corner, which was denied again by the blocker of Fleming.

The Vikes attack would break through twice more in the second half, with goals from Erin Dawson in the 52nd minute, and Tessa Johnston in the 58th. Vikes Jenna Dhillon should be credited for some of her team's offence success, as she had a number of strong plays in the midfield that led to goals.

Dinos central defender Madison MacMillan had a nice performance at the back, stopping a number of the Vikes attacks before they could get into the circle.

Despite the more lopsided score, Dinos head coach Peter Taylor was upbeat after the game, believing his team had improved from yesterday. "We played a much better game than yesterday. We attacked more and we had more shots on goal. I think a closer game was a more justified score."

Things wont get any easier for the Dinos next weekend, as they host the seven-time defending nation champion UBC Thunderbirds for back-to-back games on Sept. 29-30. Both games once again start at 11 a.m. on the brand new turf at Hawkings Field.
