CALGARY – The UBC Thunderbirds beat the Calgary Dinos with a final score of 4-2 on a warm Sunday at Hawkings Field.

The second game of the Dinos' season consisted of stronger play by the T-Birds with augmented confidence in performance of the Dinos.

UBC freshman Sara Goodman scored the first goal of the game through a penalty corner within the 16th minute of the match. Following that, T-Birds' Margaret Pham scored the second goal through a penalty stroke. Goodman scored the third penalty corner goal during the 27th minute of the match.

The Dinos scored both of their goals within the second half of the game. Calgary's forward player Jenna Bower and midfielder Chloe Keeler-Young scored field goals within minutes of one another.

Minutes within the start of the match, the fast and strong play of the T-Birds was responded with increased skill performance of the Dinos.

Dinos goalkeeper Madison Arbuckle executed an excellent performance during the first half of the game; she efficiently side swept and blocked two near goals by the T-Birds with the ball being aimed towards the bottom right of the Dinos net.

During the 31st minute of the match, Calgary's Chloe Keeler-Young made an impressive attempt at scoring a field goal into the T-Birds' net, with the ball sliding past the net while touching left post.

During the 36th minute of the match, Dino Sabrina Wong made an excellent defence shot, thus, prohibiting the T-birds to score a goal. The ball was aimed right to the centre of the net and was inches away from going into the net right when Wong conducted a powerful slide and pass, sending the ball away to the opposite side.

Jenna Birch-Jones of the Dinos performed a unique penalty shot by incorporating air dribbling which in turn allowed a sleek pass to another Dinos midfielder and made the ball travel further towards the Thunderbird goal.

"There was more spirit, the girls were not on as edge and there was more composure plus determination," said Dinos Head Coach Peter Taylor. "They really picked it up during the second half. I feel more confident about next week as we've had these two good games".

The Dinos remain at home next weekend when they will host the Victoria Vikes Saturday and Sunday at Hawkings Field.
