TRU OUTLASTS MOUNT ROYAL'S LATE GAME SURGE

Calgary, AB – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack completed the weekend sweep of the Mount Royal Cougars, winning their fourth straight game 72-62 Saturday evening on Kenyon Court. Taiysa Worsfold had a game-high 16 points for TRU. Angela Driscoll and Yasmene Saghir both scored 11 points for Mount Royal.

The Cougars took yesterday's loss personally and came out of the gate on fire. They scored the game's first 14 points, keeping TRU off the board for the first 6:25 of the first quarter. Angela Driscoll and Melissa Moore were hitting from all over the floor as Mount Royal dominated. TRU called a timeout and rallied, scoring 15 of the next 17 points. Mount Royal's 14-point lead evaporated in just under three minutes but they still led 15-14 at the quarter break.

The WolfPack opened up the quarter with a Taiysa Worsfold three-pointer to take the lead for the first time in the game. They scored seven more unanswered points before Mount Royal was forced to call a timeout. Out of the stoppage, the Cougars slowly picked away at the lead. Solid shooting from Angela Driscoll, Brooke Lister and Yasmene Saghir brought the Cougars back to within five points at the half, trailing 34-29.

Much like Friday's contest, the third quarter was the one that got away from the Cougars. Mount Royal only managed to score three points in the third quarter, while the WolfPack did not take their foot off the gas. TRU scored 23 points on the strength of Emma Piggin and Michelle Bos' outside shooting.

Down 20 in the fourth quarter, the Cougars refused to quit. They caused several turnovers and an eight second violation that sparked a quick five-point run. The WolfPack's shooting became just too hard to contain as players were pulling up and jarring deep balls at will. For the second straight night, the Cougars couldn't contain the WolfPack's firepower. TRU won the game 72-62 earning the weekend sweep.

TRU improves to 4-0 on the season, while Mount Royal is still searching for their first win at 0-4.

The WolfPack will return home to start a four-game home stand next weekend. Their first opponents will be the MacEwan Griffins on Nov. 20.

The Cougars will head off to Kelowna next weekend in search of their first victory against UBC Okanagan. Tip-off for their first game goes at 6:00pm PST on Nov. 20.
