Pandas Hit 20 Win Mark With Victory Over Wesmen

The University of Alberta Pandas wrapped up regular season play with a 3-1 (26-24, 17-25, 25-18, 25-18) victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Saturday afternoon at the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.

The Pandas with the victory finish the regular season with a record of 20-4. Winnipeg with the defeat will finish the season with a record of 8-16.

Meg Casault led the Pandas with a match high 21 kills. Karly Janssen was next with 10 kills. Jessie Niles led the Pandas in digs with 10. Gbemisola Olutogun had a strong match at the net with four blocks.

Tia Boroski led the Wesmen with 11 kills and 12 defensive digs. Ozana Nikolic and Karissa Kuhr each added 10 kills. Mackenzie Jeffrey led the team in blocks with four.

The first set was anyone's for the taking as both teams commited ten attacking errors. The Pandas were able to fight thru those errors and took the first set in extra points by a score of 26-24.

Winnipeg was able to draw even in set number two. The hometown Wesmen led 16-10 at the technical timeout on their way to a 25-17 set win to even the match at 1-1.

In set three, Winnipeg carried the momentum early, jumping out to a 16-13 lead at the technical timeout. Things soon went downhill for the Wesmen. Winnipeg was up 18-15 until Alberta went on a 10-0 run to come back and win the set by a score of 25-18.

Alberta had control of the fourth set leading 16-11 at break and continued to put pressure on the Wesmen closing out the set by a score of 25-18.
