CALGARY, AB – With a dominant victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen (25-22, 25-23, 25-12) on Friday night, the Mount Royal University Cougars kept their playoff hopes alive much to the delight of their home crowd.

Highlighting the opening set was a quick tip over the net from Kylie Willis, landing safely in the open court. Statistical advantages for the Cougars included assists (12-8), digs (13-10) and serve aces (1-0).

A Taylor Pelland kill preceded a similar play from Carolina Alongi in the second set to put the Cougars up by a two-point advantage. Mount Royal eventually found themselves trailing by a score of 20-17, but four straight points from the Cougars enabled the home side to reclaim the lead for good.

The third set saw Alex Donaghy send a thunderous strike down the line and the Sylvan Lake, AB native followed that up with a perfect serve landing just before the end line.

The resounding triumph included 9.5 points from Julia Kryzan and 12 total kills from the Cougars in each of the three sets.

Mount Royal improves to 10-11 on the season while the Wesmen now sit at eight wins against 13 losses.

Kenyon Court will host these same two teams on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm, the Cougars' final home game of the year.
