CALGARY, AB – In women's volleyball action on Friday evening, the Mount Royal proved to be too much for the Calgary Dinos, victorious at Kenyon Court in four sets (25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-15).

Five kills from the Cougars' Carolina Alongi and 10 assists from Jenna Smith were not enough in the opening set, as Mount Royal fell by four points. The Cougars committed a total of seven errors in the first frame.

The momentum swung in dramatic fashion during the second set, as Mount Royal led from start to finish. Four straight points by the Dinos preceded a Cougars timeout, but the home side regrouped before knotting up the match. A beautiful cross-court shot by Julia Kryzan highlighted the second set.

In the third, Mount Royal marched out to a 5-1 advantage, but the set was deadlocked at six soon thereafter. With either team unable to find consistency and take command on the court, the Cougars found a way to outlast Calgary 25-23.

A total of 14 serve aces and 9.5 total blocks catapulted Mount Royal to a fourth-set win, polished off by Alongi, whose spike could not be returned.

Mount Royal improved to 9-8 on the season with the much-needed triumph. Meanwhile, the Dinos' two-game winning steak came to an end as they now sport an 8-11 record through 19 games.

The crosstown rivals will now prepare for a Saturday evening rematch hosted by Calgary from the Jack Simpson Gym. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
