REGINA, Sask. – The University of Regina's women's volleyball team hung with a tough Alberta team for a large portion of the match, but the visiting Pandas eventually pulled out a four-set win over the Cougars on Saturday night to complete a weekend sweep at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Alberta looked to be on its way to an easy night after the Pandas started out the match with a 25-12 win – but the middle two sets couldn't have been any different from the first. Alberta led for most of the second set but never by more than four as the Cougars hung around, then went on a late 6-1 run following a timeout to collect a 26-24 win in the second.

The third set followed a similar script with Alberta leading most of the way but the Cougars remaining in striking distance. And sure enough, four consecutive late points by Regina brought them to within one at 23-22 – but this time, Alberta was able to respond with back-to-back points on a block and a Meg Casault kill to put the Pandas up 2-1 in the match.

The fourth set, though, was all Pandas as they clinched the win with a 25-13 victory.

Three players hit double figures in kills for Alberta (16-4), including Kacey Otto who led the team with 11 and also tied libero Jessie Niles for the team high with 14 digs. Casault and Karly Janssen both added 10 kills, with Janssen also adding nine digs and six blocks in a big statistical night for the fourth-year outside hitter. Shauny Hogg had also had nine kills for the Pandas, while setter Mariah Walsh finished with 40 assists.

Playing in her 100th career match and honoured prior to the match as part of Senior Night, veteran outside hitter Tori Glynn had a solid night for Regina with 12 kills, 12 digs, and a .357 hitting percentage. Ashlee Sandiford had a match-high 13 kills and added 13 digs for a double-double, while Taylor Ungar led all players with 18 digs for the Cougars. Rookie setter Erika Burns also had a double-double with 36 assists and 13 digs.

Alberta will have next weekend off before closing out the conference schedule with two home matches against Calgary and two away matches at Winnipeg.

The Cougars (1-19) are back in action next weekend with a pair of away matches against MacEwan. They'll close out the 2015-16 season on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 at Saskatchewan.
