SASKATOON – After dropping the first set, the MacEwan Univeristy Griffins rallied back to take a 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20) decision over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night at the PAC.

MacEwan improves to 5-12 with the win, while the Huskies drop to 7-12 with the loss.

Saskatchewan started the night on a positive note. The Huskies led the first set from start to finish. Emmalyn Copping capped off the set with a kill to give the Huskies a 25-21 win.

MacEwan responded in the second set, jumping out to a 7-3 lead. The Huskies would tie things back up at 10 and eventually take a 12-10 lead with a 6-0 spurt. MacEwan would battle back to tie things up before the teams continued to trade points up to 21-21. From there the Griffins would close the set on a 4-0 run to win 25-21.

The Griffins got out to another hot start in the third. Jasey Hook's kill forced the Huskies to take a timeout, trailing 7-1. Saskatchewan would use the entire set to claw back into it with a Jina Barker kill cutting the deficit to 23-22. It was too little to late for the Huskies as Hook put away another kill for the 25-23 win.

After the two sides went back and forth early in the fourth set, Saskatchewan managed to jump ahead 12-10. In an evenly matched set neither side could find a way to pull ahead. A quick 3-0 spurt put the Griffins up 21-18 and allowed MacEwan to finish off the night with a 25-20 set win.

The two teams meet again Saturday night at 6 p.m. at the PAC.
