Top Ranked Heat Sweep Huskies

SASKATOON – The No. 1 ranked UBC Okanagan Heat made it back-to-back wins over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a three set win (25-12, 25-15, 25-15) to sweep the Huskies on Saturday night at the PAC.

The Heat improve their record to 4-0 in the young Canada West season while the Huskies fall back to even at 2-2.

UBCO made just eight errors in the match compared to 25 for the hometown squad, while outplaying the Huskies at the net to record 18 blocks to just four.

Jumping out to big leads in the first two sets, the Heat showed why they were the top ranked team in the country coming into the week. The Huskies fell behind 9-1 in the opening set and could only get as close as six points before the Heat pulled away. In the second Saskatchewan hung close until a big UBCO run made it 19-11. In the final set, the Heat capitalized on Huskie errors to go on an early run to grab a 13-8 lead.

Emmalyn Copping led the Huskie attack again on Saturday night with 10 kills. Jina Barker set up Copping and her teammates 22 times in the match.

Brianna Beamish was efficient with her team high 10 kills, converting on 56% of her attacks. Beamish also recorded four of her team's 10 service aces on the night. Kaitlynn Given led the Heat blockers with four.

Saskatchewan hosts the Trinity Western Spartans next weekend at the PAC in Saskatoon while the Heat host the Winnipeg Wesmen.
