Head-to-head (6-2): UBC Okanagan hosted Manitoba for the pair of matches this year back on October 24-25, and the Heat downed the defending national champions, dropping only a single set on the Friday 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-12, 25-23) and 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-15) on Saturday night. The double victories set the Canada West career mark between the two schools at 6-2 in favour of UBC Okanagan.

Jousting for records: Fourth-year Heat star middle blocker Katy Klomps (Surrey, BC) is currently second-all time in regular season career total blocks and blocks per set. Klomps' 135 total blocks this season tied current total-blocks all-time record holder Alicia Perrin, a fifth-year at Trinity Western University, and both girls now share the all-time single season total blocks record. Perrin's record stands at 512 while Klomps hit 407 this year, on pace to pass up Perrin next year.
In addition, Klomps' blocks-per-set ratio has steadily climbed over her four years thus far, from 1.08 in 2011/12 to 1.30 in 2012/13, 1.42 in 2013/14 and now 1.59 in 2014/15, bringing her career bps to 1.35. Perrin currently sits atop that category as well with a career bps after five years of 1.39 with Klomps leapfrogging into second place.
Klomps already holds the record as well for total blocks in a single match at 15, acquired on November 2, 2013 vs. Mount Royal.
Serving it tough: Part of the Heat's success has been a method of excellent serving pressure. Third-year outside hitter Megan Festival (Calgary, AB) led the conference this season with 44 service aces. Teammate setter Emily Oxland (North Vancouver, BC) also ranked high on that list at the 12th spot with 31, shared with Manitoba star Rachel Cockrell. Also on that list is Bison Kalena Schulz at second with 41.
Of note, Oxland currently holds the all-time single-season total aces record with 46, set in in 2013-13 over 22 matches.
Patient assassin: Rachel Cockrell ranked first in the regular season this year in kills (471), kills per set (5.06), points (535.5) and points per set (5.8). Last year's CIS National Tournament MVP has been the primary catalyst of the Bisons' attempts to make it back to the dance and complete and repeat performance of a year prior.
Up and down Bisons: The Manitoba Bisons have had an unpredictable regular season, and can be considered Jekyll and Hyde within the Canada West conference. The Bisons have lost to teams that are in the bottom of the league, but have also defended their ground against teams in top playoff seats. Aside from UBC Okanagan and Calgary, the Bisons have won at least one game against all other teams in the play-offs. Manitoba has been unable to build momentum with their longest winning streak being 3. The Heat, on the other hand, have a impressive 13 game winning streak. The Bisons have the potential to compete with the top teams, but have a record of 7 wins and 6 losses on the road. UBC Okanagan hopes to pounce on the opposing Bisons' variability and advance into the semi-finals.
Playoff veterans: This is now the third year in a row that UBC Okanagan has made the Canada West playoffs out of four tries so far in the league. Their first year they were defeated by Mount Royal in the quarterfinals but bounced back last season to make it to the Final Four and just miss a trip to nationals. For the reigning champs it is now their ninth consecutive outing at the dance, having narrowly punched their ticket in after downing MacEwan last weekend.
