BOBCATS COMPLETE SWEEP OF HUSKIES

With a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) win Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon the visiting Brandon University Bobcats completed the weekend sweep of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to open the second half of the Canada West women's volleyball season.

Shanlee McLennan led the Bobcats in the win tallying double-digits with 14 kills and 10 digs. Jodie Baker added another 10 kills, while Tori Dakin led the Bobcats with 12 digs.

Kayla Tycholiz and Emmalyn Copping each recorded eight kills in the loss, while libero Anne Hanbidge had a match-high 13 digs.

With the sweep, Brandon improves to 10-6, while the Huskies drop to 4-12. A night earlier, the Bobcats won 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-8).

Tied at 12 in the first set, Brandon scored five straight points to take a 17-12 lead. Baker and Mary Thomson led the Bobcats in the run combining for three kills and two blocks. Saskatchewan couldn't recover from the Bobcats run only pulling within four. Brandon took the set 25-16.

Saskatchewan started the second set with a 4-0 run before the Bobcats went on a 10-2 run to lead 10-6. The Huskies battled to pull to 22-19 when a McLennan attack sailed long, but three quick kills from Baker, Meaghan Robertson and McLennan ended the set 25-19.

Tied at 15 in the third set, Brandon pulled to a 19-15 lead on a Huskie error, Roberts-McLennan block and two Thomson service aces. The Huskies stayed close in the set and were down by one at 21-20 after a Jina Barker service ace. But three kills by Vaovai Aiono and McLennan gave Brandon the edge 25-22.

The Huskies travel to visit provincial rival the Regina Cougars next weekend, while the Bobcats return home to host the UBC Thunderbirds.
