PANDAS COMPLETE SWEEP OF HUSKIES

The No. 2 ranked University of Alberta Pandas completed a sweep of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-15) win Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

With the win, the Pandas improve to 3-1 in the young Canada West women's volleyball season, while Saskatchewan drops to 1-3. A night earlier, Alberta won 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-20).

Third-year outside hitter Meg Casault led the Pandas to the victory with 10 kills, three service aces and four digs. Middle Dione Lang added another eight kills, as well as two solo blocks and three assisted blocks.

Middle Emily Humbert and outside hitter Emmalyn Copping each recorded seven kills for the Huskies, while middle Kayla Tycholiz and outside hitter Erin Guillemin each tallied six.

Saskatchewan came out with a jump in the first set leading until the ninth point when a Casault ace put the Pandas ahead. From that point, Alberta took over the set and grew hefty seven-point lead. A Kacey Otto kill that landed near the back line gave the Pandas the 25-17 win.

The Pandas grew another seven-point lead in the second set to take control. The Pandas easily walked to the 25-11 win.

Once again in the third set, Alberta grew a large lead that Saskatchewan couldn't overcome. A Jessica Stroud attack gave the Pandas the 25-15 win.

Alberta returns home to host the Trinity Western Spartans, while the Huskies enter a bye week.
