REGINA - UBC got goals from four different players on Sunday afternoon as the No. 6-ranked Thunderbirds downed the University of Regina women's soccer team 4-1 at the U of R Field.

Tess McRae, Ameila Crawford, Michelle Jang and Danielle Steer converted for the visitors, while Taylor Bubnick scored her first goal as a Cougar for Regina.

McRae scored in the 34th minute, putting home a rebound after a corner kick caused some chaos in the Cougar box. UBC would go up 2-0 before the halftime break, as Crawford found the net in the 41st minute. Steer took a long lead pass down the right wing and sent a low cross in front of the Cougar goal. Crawford got just enough on it to direct is past Ashton Lowry.

Jang scored her eighth of the season in the 54th minute and then set up Steer in the 70th minute for her eighth of the Canada West campaign.

The Cougar goal came in the 69th minute as Bubnick capitalized on an aggressive play by UBC keeper Sarah Johns. Brianna Wright was sent in on a through ball and Johns came well out of her goal to try and beat Wright to the ball. The ball ended up on the foot of Bubnick who had a wide open goal from about 25 yards out and put it home.

Lowry made four saves in the match, with Savannah Williams coming on in relief for the last 20 minutes and making one save. Johns stopped three Cougar shots. 

UBC had 21 shots, with 13 hitting their target. Regina countered with nine efforts and four on net.

The Cougars (2-9-1) and are now tied with Lethbridge for the final Canada West playoff spot. The Cougars hold the tiebreaker between the two teams after picking up a 1-0 win over the Pronghorns back in September.

Regina will close the Canada West season on the road with matches against Winnipeg and Manitoba. UBC (10-2-0) will return home for games against Trinity Western and UFV.
