REGINA - The University of Regina women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to the Victoria Vikes on a blustery Saturday afternoon at the U of R Field.

With the wind gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour from the northwest, a lot of the action was limited to the south end of the pitch. Rachel Baird and Caitlin Millham scored first-half goals and Georgia Bignold and Baird added markers in the second half for Victoria as the Vikes improved to 5-5-1.

The Cougars drop to 2-8-1, but still hold on to the sixth and final Prairie Division playoff spot.

Though Regina had the wind advantage in the first half it was Victoria that was able to find the net. Baird found herself in the right position to put home her first of the season after Ashton Lowry bobbled a cross that came into the box.

Lowry's struggles continued in the opening half, as Millham notched her second of the season on a similar play to the first goal.

Bignold kept things rolling for Victoria after the halftime break, scoring a nice goal on a perfect through ball from Kiara Kilbey in the 66th minute. Baird added her second in the 89th minute, potting a quick shot after a corner kick caused a scramble in the Cougar box.

Lowry made two saves in her third start of the season for Regina. Puck Louwes stopped all five Cougar efforts she faced, picking up her fourth shutout of the season.

The Cougars will be back at home on Sunday for an afternoon match against the No. 6-ranked UBC Thunderbirds, who topped the Saskatchewan Huskies 1-0 on Saturday. Victoria will visit the Huskies on Sunday, looking for a weekend sweep of Prairie Division opponents.
