Scott Stewart - Trinity Western 

LANGLEY, B.C. – The No. 2 Trinity Western Spartans used goals by third year forward Kathryn Harvey (Coquitlam, B.C.) and fourth year midfielder Jenaya Robertson (Delta, B.C.) to defeat the No. 9 Alberta Pandas 2-0 Friday night at Chase Office Field in Langley, B.C. The victory improves the Spartans to 10-1-0 in Canada West conference play, while the loss drops the Pandas to 8-1-2. 

TWU's fifth year keeper Rachel Sydor (Tsawwassen, B.C.) was solid in net for the Spartans to earn the win, while Alberta's Rebecca Reif made two saves in the loss for the Pandas. 

Harvey opened the scoring for the Spartans in the 15^th minute. Inside the box in tight space Harvey took a touch from Amy Gartke to put TWU up 1-0. The one goal advantage would stand up to the end of the half with the Spartans leading 1-0 after 45 minutes. The Spartans finished the half with a 7-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. 

The Pandas had a strong start to the second half, but TWU's Sydor was able to stop Nicole Palladino, Anna Dunn in the first 15 minutes of the second half.

The Spartans got their insurance goal in the 68^th minute. TWU fifth year forward Seina Kashima (Burnaby, B.C.) recorded her 10^th assist of the campaign when she broke in between two defenders in the centre of the box and found Robertson by the far post. 

Alberta had three more attempts at the TWU net in the final 20 minutes, but were unable to find the mark as the Spartans took the contest 2-0.

"I didn't think we started very well. I thought they were the more aggressive and more energetic team. It took us about 15 minutes to come got grips with the pace, but we started moving ball and breaking their press, I thought we opened up space for ourselves. I thought Seina very dangerous and Danae may have played her best game in her five-year career. She was awesome and made some really intelligent decisions. Once we got going, I thought it was only a matter of time before scored." 

"At halftime, we challenged them not to sit and rest on 1-0 and I thought we played quite maturely in the second half. I thought Alberta pushed for about 10 minutes and we weathered the storm. Once we scored the second goal, I think we did well to close the game out." 

On Playing Mount Royal on Saturday
"We have to bounce back and realize that hard work and intelligent play is what opened up space for us tonight. I think if we come out tomorrow with the same energy we ended with tonight, we'll have a pretty good chance."

• Kashima now leads Canada West in both assists (10) and points (17).
• Kashima's assist moves her into a tie for third on the CW single season assist record book. She is now one assist away for tying the record, which is held by Calgary's Tessa Miller (2013) and Jordan Smith (2016).
• Kashima's 17 points puts her in a tie for eighth spot in the CW single season point record, which is held by TWU's Krista Gommeringer ('16) with 22.
• Kashima extends her CW career assist record to 35, eight assists ahead of Calgary's Tessa Miller ('13). Calgary's Jordan Smith is the closest active player to Kashima with 21 assists.
• Kashima's 55 career points trails only Gommeringer (56) for the TWU record.
• With the win TWU clinches a spot in the post season, Alberta also secured a spot in the play-offs.
