CALGARY – Damiane Sawatzky's conversion off a corner in the 17th minute of the game was the first of three goals for the University of Calgary Dinos Sunday afternoon, as they ended with a 3-0 win against the Regina Cougars at the West Varsity Soccer Pitch.

With the victory the Dinos advance their winning streak to seven games, helping them keep pace with the Prairie Division-leading Alberta Pandas, while the Cougars fall to 2-5-1.

"It was a good result and performance. Regina is a physical team that is well organized," said Dinos head coach Troye Flannery. "Montana Leonard was everywhere for us today and was the player of the match for us. It was another stingy performance for the back four and a clean sheet for Lauren Houghton."

Despite out chancing the Cougars in the first 45 minutes, Flannery challenged his team to pick up their play in the second half.

"I wasn't happy with our energy levels in the first half," explained Flannery. "The team responded really well."

The Cougars' two shots, including one on goal, in the first half were the only ones they would have as the Dinos turned up the pace after halftime. Following the break, Kelsie MacDonald came into the match and scored her second goal in as many games, finishing a pass from Maddison Fritze in the 54th minute.

The play remained tilted in the Cougars' end as the Dinos offence continued to press in the second half. Calgary added a third goal in the 86th minute as Leonard found the back of the net.

Houghton finished the day with one save, while Cougars goalkeeper Kylie Bolton was much busier stopping eight of 11 attempts.

The Dinos will play a home-and-home next weekend against the Lethbridge Pronghorns, beginning on Thursday, Oct. 4. The Cougars play their provincial rivals, the Saskatchewan Huskies, starting on Saturday, Oct. 6.
