Connor Hood, Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics

EDMONTON - Five different Alberta Pandas found the scoresheet, as they Pandas cruised past the visiting Thompson Rivers WolfPack with a 5-0 victory, Saturday afternoon at Foote Field.

Karissa McNutt, Nicole Palladino, Sydney Daines, Aly Parth and Anna Dunn each recorded their first goals of the conference season, as the Pandas improved to 3-0-0 in 2018. Fifth-year keeper Rebecca Reif stopped all three WolfPack shots she faced, earning her second clean sheet of the season.

The loss for the WolfPack is their second this season, as they fall to 1-2-0 in conference play.

With heavy snow and frigid temperatures in Edmonton, neither team opened the match with stellar play. The Pandas controlled the ball early in the first half, but had trouble finding the target with their shots early. McNutt eventually capitalized on the Pandas early dominance, as she tapped in the cross from Brenna Mattiello in the 22nd minute.

Despite 12 first half shots, the Pandas couldn't add to their lead later in the first half. Danielle Robertson made four of her 10 saves in the first half, while her attacking teammates mustered just three first half shots, none of which were on target.

All of the Pandas offensive chances started finding the back of the net in the second half, as they added four goals on 14 shots in the second 45. Palladino doubled the Alberta lead in the 48th, as she beat Robertson on a breakaway off the feed from McNutt.

McNutt recorded her third point of the match in the 67th minute as she added her second assist, feeding Daines inside the TRU box for the tap-in goal. The onslaught continued late into the second half, as Parth made the Alberta lead 4-0 in the 80th minute, before Dunn notched her first of the season in added time.

The Pandas have now scored 10 goals in three Canada West games this season, tied for the most in the conference with UBC. It was also the second-straight shutout for the Pandas, who beat Lethbridge 3-0 last Sunday.

Alberta will remain at home for Sunday's match, as they host the UBC Okanagan Heat at noon at Foote Field. The WolfPack, meanwhile, will head south to Calgary to take on the Mount Royal Cougars.
