The University of Winnipeg Wesmen picked up a hard fought 1-1 draw against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a Canada West Women's Soccer battle Saturday afternoon at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

The Huskies record sits at 9-3-1. Winnipeg goes to 1-10-2 on the season. Saskatchewan entered the contest as the top team in the East Division of the Canada West Conference.

Fifth year midfielder Kelly Cerkwoniak scored the lone goal for the Huskies. Wesmen fifth year midfielder Danielle Bulloch replied for Winnipeg.

Both teams started the opening half very cautious with neither side getting any good quality scoring chances in the cool, windy conditions at the pitch.

Saskatchewan broke thru in the 33rd minute as Cerkwoniak took a perfect pass from striker Jenelle Zapski and chipped the ball past Wesmen goalkeeper Justina Jarmoszko to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

Winnipeg after not getting too many quality scoring chances in the contest capitalized on a great opportunity. Bulloch picked up a loose ball that went off a Huskies defender and made no mistake beating Saskatchewan goalkeeper Kyleigh Vause to tie the contest at 1-1 in the 54th minute.

Saskatchewan had 15 total shots in the match compared to only three for Winnipeg.

Jarmoszko made five saves for Winnipeg, Vause made two saves for the Huskies.

Winnipeg will play host to Regina tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Saskatchewan will play the Manitoba Bisons.
