VANCOUVER – The No. 7 UBC Thunderbirds won their fifth straight match Friday night by shutting out the visiting Regina Cougars 3-0 at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver.

All three goals, by Amrit Berar (Richmond, B.C.), Krista Whittaker(Nanaimo, B.C.) and Madison Guy (Langley, B.C.) came in the first half. Goalkeeper Olivia de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) secured her Canada West-leading fifth clean sheet of the season.

In the 11th minute, Berar is taken down inside the penalty box and scored the ensuing penalty into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 for UBC.

A few minutes later, Berar stole the ball and laid it up for teammate Jasmin Dhanda (Surrey, B.C.) but Cougar 'keeper Savannah Williams managed to deflect it resulting in a corner.

As the game neared halftime, UBC added to its lead. In the 43rd minute, Taylor Shannik (Delta, B.C.) found defender Whittaker with a corner kick and the 5-foot-9 Whittaker was able to head the ball in for her first goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Then in injury time, the Thunderbirds played a beautiful combination up the field to secure their third goal. Dhanda crossed it to Guy at the top left corner of the box who found the net with a precise shot past Williams: UBC 3, Regina 0.

The Cougars defence clamped down in the second half, only allowing two shots.
