Wesmen, Pronghorns Battle To A Scoreless Draw

On a warm but windy afternoon, the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Soccer team battled the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 0-0 draw at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

Both teams had to deal with the windy conditions which kept scoring chances to a minimum early on.

The opening 35 minutes of the contest was a defensive struggle with neither team giving the other any clear scoring chances. The Pronghorns had a few chances soon after. A shot by Danielle Lagemaat found its way thru the Wesmen defenders by goalkeeper Justina Jarmoszko came up with the save. Erica Augsten had an opportunity in the 40th minute but Jarmoszko once again made the save. The Pronghorns went into the halftime break with a 7-4 advantage in the shots on net category.

Winnipeg made some adjustments in the second half and carried the play for a majority of the final 45 minutes. Winnipeg's best chance came in the 78th minute when Rachel Dunsmore chipped a shot high on Pronghorns goalkeeper Micaela Stone but at the last second Stone was able to get a hand on the ball to keep the match scoreless. Winnipeg outplayed the Pronghorns in the final 10 minutes but were unable to break the scoreless draw.

The Wesmen had 12 total shots compared to nine by Lethbridge. Jarmoszko made four saves while Stone was called on to make eight.

Winnipeg's record goes to 1-5-1, Lethbridge sits at 2-1-2.
