Fauteux Dominant In One Half As WolfPack Blank Timberwolves In WSOC

Danielle Fauteux has sent a message to the rest of the Canada West women's soccer league this weekend.  That message is:  Beware.

Fauteux, a former Junior National team and NCAA Division I player was dominant leading her Thompson Rivers Univesity WolfPack women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the host University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on Sunday (Sept 13).  The WolfPack were coming off a 2-2 draw Friday (Sept 11) in Alberta.

In those two matches, the 31 year old Fauteux (5th year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) had two goals and two assists.  In this match—where she scored two goals.  And she only played the first half.

"She worked hard all weekend," said TRU head coach Tom McManus. " We always knew she had the talent, but now that she is becoming adjusted to the pace of the game she has become dominant.  This weekend she clearly dropped and held the ball so much that she sets the pace of the match.  She was stealing the ball all the time in this match. She was amazing."

Fauteux's first goal came in the 17 th minute as she headed in a Jaydene Radu (5th year, forward, Calgary, AB) cross into the net.

Her second marker came just before the half when she took a pass from Sara Fertile (3rd year, Kamloops, BC) and broke through the UNBC back line before slotting the ball through Timberwolves keeper Jordan Hall's (Prince George, BC) legs.

"This was a great team effort," said McManus of his club's performance which sees their record rise to two wins, a draw and a loss.  " IN the second half, we not only battled UNBC but also the hail and winds which were going against us."

Taylor Miller (3rd year, forward, Kamloops, BC) scored the other TRU marker as she took a through ball from Radu and put it over the UNBC keeper's head in the 84 th minute.

Taylor Shantz (5th year, Kamloops, BC) earned the shutout as she made 10 saves—seven in the second half.

McManus credited Kindra Maracle (2nd year, midfield, Kamloops, BC) for winning the ball in the midfield along with a solid back line consisting of Jodi Hutton (3rd year, sweeper, Kamloops, BC), Christine Fergin (2nd year, defender, Waterloo, ON), Sara Seebach (3rd year, stopper, Kamloops, BC)  and Natalie Verdiel (1st year, defender, Powell River, BC).

The WolfPack wind up their six game season opening roadswing next weekend with matches Friday (Sept 18) at Trinity Western and Saturday (Sept 19) against Fraser Valley. Their first home match is set for Saturday, September 26 th, 2 pm at Hillside Stadium against the University of Victoria Vikes.
