Cougars, Dinos battle to 1-1 draw

The University of Regina women's soccer team fought the Calgary Dinos to a 1-1 draw in Canada West action on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Regina.

Cougars rookie Sarah Moroziuk (pictured) scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 68th minute to draw the teams even at 1.
Dino goalkeeper Samantha Chang-Foidl came out of her net to play a long pass by the Cougars, but was forced to backtrack and pass the ball back to her defender in front of the net. The defender's clearing attempt was blocked by Moroziuk and ricocheted into the open net.

Calgary's goal came in the 60th minute as was largely due to the rainy conditions. Following a Cougar foul, Dominca Wronski lined up a free kick from over 40 yards out and crossed the ball towards the box. The ball skipped on the wet turf and took a high bounce that fooled Regina keeper Kacey McFee and put the Dinos up 1-0.

The Cougars had three shots on net in the first half but Chang-Foidl handled them all easily.

Calgary's best chance came in the 12th minute when Jordan Smith beat McFee with a shot, but the ball was cleared out of harm's way by Cougars defender Molly Glass.
The Dinos also had a strong chance in the 36th minute when Wronski was sent in on a breakaway but rocketed a shot off the crossbar and out of play.

The second half brought strong, physical play from both teams but failed to produce any solid chances. The teams combined for six shots in the second frame, including the two unusual goals.

Kayla McDonald and Moroziuk each had three shots on net for the Cougars.

McFee stopped a total of four shots for Regina. Chang-Foidl made six saves for Calgary.

Regina moves to 3-2-2 with the result, while Calgary remains unbeaten at 4-0-3.

The two teams are to square off again on Sunday, with the match set for noon at the U of R Field.
