HUSKIES STAY UNDEFEATED AFTER DRAW WITH PANDAS

Despite a fast paced second half, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the No. 7 University of Alberta Pandas finished in a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.

With the 0-0 result Saskatchewan remains undefeated in the young Canada West season at 3-0-1. Alberta (1-1-2) finishes its Saskatchewan roadtrip 1-0-1 after defeating Regina on Saturday.

The Pandas came out in the opening minutes of the second half looking to net the first goal of the match when striker Paula Dadensky beat the Huskie defenders to a loose ball just outside the 18-yard box. Dadensky looked poised to send a strike into the net in the 48th minute, but Huskie keeper Cara Santaga blocked the attempt with a diving challenge.

Alberta's Jessie Candlish nearly broke the scoreless affair in the 59th minute sending a header just wide of the post to Santaga's right.

Saskatchewan began to take momentum midway through the half sparked by a  Jessica Morrow run to break past her defender before sending a hard shot on the Panda net.

In the 75th minute Gillian Pinder sent a corner kick towards the back post that was headed on goal by Carmen Gorlick. The header looked like it might cross the line before it was quickly cleared by a Panda defender.

The Huskies would continue to apply pressure in the closing minutes, but could not get a ball past Alberta's Kelti Biggs.

Biggs would finish with six saves in the match. Santaga also made six saves in goal for the Huskies.

Alberta will host Mount Royal University next weekend in Edmonton, while Saskatchewan travels to Calgary to take on the Dinos.
