VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds (4-1-4) hit the score sheet early and often in an 8-0 rout of the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (1-7) at Thunderbird Stadium on a chilly Saturday evening.

Reigning Canada West First Star Jasmin Dhanda was unstoppable for the 'Birds. The fourth year striker found the back of the net four times and set up two other markers.  UBC defender Aman Shergill also scored twice for the 'Birds in a game which saw them fire an astounding 36 shots at the TRU goalkeeping tandem of Deanna Brady and Alyssa Smith.

"We talked a lot as a team that October is the month we were going to start flying," said UBC Head Coach Jesse Symons. "The players wanted that."

UBC swarmed the TRU 18-yard box from the opening whistle and opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Madison Guy finished off a nice low cross from Meagan Pasternak.

UBC struck again in the 31st minute when Shayla Chorney leapt high into the air and put her head to a pinpoint cross from Rachel Jones. Chorney's header hit the top corner of the TRU net and the floodgates had officially opened.

In the 41st minute Jones' shot was blocked by a TRU defender, but fell nicely on to Dhanda's right foot. She wasted no time slotting the ball inside the far post.

After the half, with UBC already ahead 3-0 in the game, the curtain raised on the Dhanda and Shergill show. The duo had a hand in all five UBC goals. Shergill was even given time at forward with Dhanda and the two combined to make a lethal strike force.

"That was a lot of fun," said Dhanda. "We've been teammates for about ten years now but we've always been playing different positions, so it's actually fun when you get to play together."

"I don't know it's been awhile," replied Shergill when asked the last time she had a multiple goal game. "Probably way back in U-10."

With the six-point game, Dhanda will be in serious contention to repeat as Canada West First Star of the Week. The striker is blistering Canada West scoreboards with eight goals in her last four games. Shergill now has four goals on the year, three more than she had all of the 2015 campaign.

For their next game UBC welcomes Victoria to Point Grey for a Thanksgiving weekend tilt on October 8.  Thompson Rivers will look to regroup when they host UBC Okanagan on October 6.
