 The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack womens soccer team showed some positive signs in the second half but wound up on the short end of a 5-1 decision to the University of Regina Cougars in Canada West play at Hillside Stadium on Saturday (Oct 22).

 SYNOPSIS

The Regina Cougars are battling for a playoff spot in the Canada West Prairie Division. The Cougars got a hat trick from Sydney Langen: two of them in the first half as they beat the WolfPack in their first ever appearance at Hillside Stadium.

On Contest:  "We've had this refrain too often this year. Poor starts. Poor 15 minutes in the first half and getting it together. We have had a glass ceiling of poor play in the first half and digging us holes that are too big for us to get out of.  We made a couple of changes in the second half. A couple of our starters wound up on the bench for the start of that half. The subs went in and played great. We had a great second half with renewed passion and enthusiasm."

On second half: "We were rewarded with a goal and should have had a couple of more.  We had some great build up and great effort. It is a score line that was disappointing for us. It shouldn't be 5-1 to Regina. With all due respect and they did come out fighting for a playoff spot.  We gave them a couple of goals. It's a big building block to fix."

Says good play is 'Flash for the Future':  We continue to learn about what our players can and cannot do.  A couple of players came on. Kelsey Thorkelsson (1^st year, Winnipeg, MB) hasn't played very much for us this year. She came on and had a very, very good half. She played smart.  These are kids we will work on during the winter and build on from there."

On Contest: " We have been trying very hard the last three weeks on our finish around the net. The movement we had today and some the players who have maybe struggled around the net were rewarded.  Hats off to TRU for doing a lot of good things. They are a younger squad. We were there once too.  I don't think the score reflects how they played.  We had some dodgy moments in the second half that we need to tidy up.  We were the merit for the win today."

UP NEXT:

Both teams finish the regular season on Sunday (Oct 23).  The Cougars will go to Nonis Field at UBCO to meet the Heat for a 1 pm kick off.

The Wolf Pack  will entertain the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. It's the first time that the Huskies women's soccer program have ever played in Kamloops and Hillside Stadium. Kickoff is 1 pm. The 'Pack will honor their lone graduating player. Katie Harding (3^rd year, midfield, Salmon Arm, BC) still has U Sport eligibility left but she is poised to graduate this spring from the Thompson Rivers University Nursing program.
