CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos soccer team improved to 5-0-0 on the season after capturing a 10-0 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday noon at West Varsity Pitch. 

The Dinos remain undefeated, and today's triumph keeps Calgary first in Canada West, a much-coveted position this early into the season. Calgary earned the victory thanks to a strong performance by the team veterans, Natalie Arnett, Mollee Ramsay and Jordan Smith. Midfield Maddie Lee showcased her skill as well with several assists.

Head Coach Troye Flannery had little to no criticism, praising the girls for their efforts throughout, and stressing the importance of detail. "We are on a bit of a run, we are scoring goals and chipping away at the same details, taking it one game at a time. We are happy with where we are at, but there's a bunch of work to do. After all, we are only five games in a fourteen goal season, and there's all kinds of stuff that happens in between; we must focus on the details."
 
Arnett – one of the players singled out by Flannery for playing a strong game- scored the first goal of the game, in the 5th minute, with an assist from Ramsay. She returned to face Wesmens goalkeeper in the 26th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the season, after receiving the ball from Smith and maneuvering her way in-between several opponents.

Ramsay scored early and often as well, earning four goals throughout the game, and boosting her to nine goals total in the 2016 season. The leading goal scorer first impressed in the 9th minute, then again in the 13th, 36th and 42nd, with assists by Arnett, Lee, and Smith (twice), respectively. 

Smith not only set up her teammates with several opportunities, but also scored herself, proving once again she's a force to be reckoned with. In the 29th minute, she capitalized on a shot from Lee, scoring her fifth goal of the season, and, in the 63rd minute, she defeated the goalkeeper again, raising the game stakes to 9-0.

Kelsie MacDonald came on at half time- when a record number of seven substitutions was made- and immediately proved her dominance on the pitch. Assisted first by Talia White and then by Montana Leonard, MacDonald found the net twice, scoring in the 50th and 76th minute.

The game finished with 28 shots by the Dinos and three by Winnipeg, with University of Calgary goalie Sophia Traxler making zero saves and Wesmens Taylor Thorkelsson protecting the goal nine times.

Both teams will be returning to play tomorrow, Sunday September 24th, with the Wesmen facing off Lethbridge, and the University of Calgary hosting the Manitoba Bisons at 12:00 on West Varsity Pitch.
