LANGFORD SHUTS OUT HUSKIES

UBC netminder Samantha Langford made 25 saves to lead the No. 8 ranked Thunderbirds to a 1-0 shutout over the No. 10 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

Langford made 11 saves in the first, seven in the second and eight in the third for her fourth shutout of the season.

With the win, UBC improves to 11-4-4. Saskatchewan drops to 11-6-2.  Entering the weekend, just four points separated five teams from first place to fifth in the Canada West women's hockey standings. The T-Birds' win leaps them to second place, while the Huskies remain in fifth.

Alternate captain Stephanie Schaupmeyer scored the lone goal in the game at 12:42 in the first period on a scramble in front of the net.

Huskie netminder Cassidy Hendricks was equally as impressive in the game making 25 saves in the loss. She stopped 19 shots in the final two periods.

Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play.

The two teams will battle again Saturday night in Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on canadawest.tv
