EDMONTON - The No.3 ranked University of Alberta Pandas suffered an offensive shortage against the Calgary Dinos, as they lost a 2-1 decision on Saturday night at Clare Drake Arena.

Coming into the weekend Alberta boasted the most productive offence in CIS women's hockey, but despite firing 18 shots on net they could only get one goal past Calgary goalie Hayley Dowling. Fourth-year forward Lindsey Cunningham picked up her sixth goal of the season for Alberta when she scored at 11:02 of the second period.

The Dinos, meanwhile, earned the split with the Pandas thanks to goals from Janelle Parent and Jenna Smith. Dowling, a sophomore puck stopper, made 17 saves to earn the win.

Alberta managed a 3-2 double overtime win on Friday night in Calgary, despite having a 2-0 lead on the Dinos, but saw the script get flipped back at home as the Pandas spotted the Dinos a 2-0 advantage early on, and then pushed for the comeback. Howie Draper's team couldn't complete the comeback, nor earn the sweep, as the offence went cold.

Parent opened the scoring at 16:14 of the first with her fifth of the season, when she was the benefactor of a giveaway in the Pandas zone, and then Smith made it 2-0 early in the second period.

Cunningham broke the goose egg, thanks to some sustained pressure in the Dinos' zone, but it would be as close as Alberta would get on the night.

Alberta is now in a four-way tie for first place in the Canada West women's hockey standings, along with UBC, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, as all the programs boast 26 points, while the Dinos are technically in second place with 25 points, despite being the fifth team in the standings. Each of the teams tied for first place has a different win-loss record as well.

The Pandas will close out the first half of the season next weekend on the road in Manitoba, while Calgary is on the road at UBC.
