The University of Regina women's hockey team completed the weekend sweep of the Lethbridge Pronghorns with a 2-0 victory at The Co-operators Centre on Saturday evening.

Caitlin Dempsey recorded her first-career Canada West goal on the powerplay in the first period and Kylie Gavelin notched her third goal of the weekend early in the third period, also on the powerplay.

Toni Ross (pictured) was stellar in net for the hometown Cougars, earning her first shutout of the season by stopping 33 Pronghorn shots.

Dempsey's goal came mid-way through the first period, after Alexis Larson and Brooklyn Moskowy were both stopped by Lethbridge goalie Crystal Patterson. Patterson made strong saves on the first two shots but could not control the second rebound and Dempsey found herself in the right place, knocking the puck into the open net.

Gavelin added an insurance marker just over two and a half minutes into the third frame, also with the man advantage. Bailey Braden cycled the pass down into the corner where Natasha Kostenko scooped it up. Kostenko fired a pass in front to the cutting Gavelin who beat Patterson to move into fourth-place in Canada West with seven goals on the season.

Patterson played well in net for the visitors, stopping 26 shots in her second-straight night of work.

Regina improves to 3-3-3-1 with the victory and passes the Calgary Dinos for fifth place in the Canada West standings. Lethbridge falls to 1-0-9-0 with the loss.

The Cougars will prepare for a home-and-home next weekend with the Saskatchewan Huskies. Friday night will see action in Saskatoon for the ladies before they play host to the Huskies on Saturday night. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
