COOK NETS TWO IN WIN OVER PANDAS

Fifth-year forward Kandace Cook tallied two goals to lift the No. 8 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2 over the visiting No. 5 ranked University of Alberta Pandas Saturday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

Tied at two entering the second period, Cook scored her second goal of the game and the winner at 15:44 on the power play. The Huskies were given the man-advantage after Deanna Morin was called for roughing. Cook's goal beat Alberta netminder Lindsey Post with just two seconds remaining on the power play.

The Pandas tossed 15 shots at Saskatchewan netminder Cassidy Hendricks but couldn't find a game-tying goal.

With the win, the Huskies move to 3-3 on the season and salvage a split in the weekend series. Alberta sits at 4-2. A night earlier, the Pandas won 4-0.

Alberta opened the scoring at 7:04 in the first period on a goal by Lindsey Cunningham. Just two minutes later, rookie Chelsey Wilson tallied her first CIS goal to notch the game at one at 9:10.

Cook scored her first of the game unassisted at 12:31 to give the Huskies the lead in the first period.

Hendricks made 36 saves in the win for Saskatchewan, while Post made 32 for the Pandas at the other end of the ice.

The Huskies remain at home to host the Calgary Dinos next weekend, while the Pandas return home to host the Mount Royal Cougars.
