On Friday, October 10, 2014, the Bison women's hockey team, in their home opener beat the Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 at the Wayne Fleming Arena.

With the victory, the Bisons improve their record to 2-1-0 while the Huskies fall to 1-2-0.

Manitoba grabbed the lead in the first, when on the power play when rookie forward Lauryn Keen banked a shot off of the back of the Huskies' goalie Cassidy Hendricks leg from the goal line, 15:19 into the period.

After the first period the shot were 10-3 in favor of the home side.

In the second period, the Bisons increased their lead to 2-0 when defenceman Caitlin Fyten tipped forward Alana Serhan's slap shot while on the power play.

The Huskies came on strong towards the end of the second period but Bisons goalie Rachel Dyck remained perfect after 40. After two periods of play the shots were 22-11 for the Bisons.

In the third, the Huskies were finally able to beat Dyck with a wrist shot from third year forward Rachel Johnson.

The Huskies pressed hard at the end of the third but Dyck was able to shut the door and keep it a one-goal game.

Rookie forward Courtlyn Oswald sealed the game with an empty net goal with 26 seconds remaining to put the Bisons up 3-1.

After the game Manitoba coach Jon Rempel said "The way (Rachel Dyck) is playing right now you've got to make a really good shot to beat her. She made a great save at the end on the two on one."

The final shots in the game were Bisons 27 Huskies 22 and Manitoba was 2/6 on the power play while Saskatchewan ended up 1/5 on the PP.

The Bisons and Huskies have a matinee rematch tomorrow at Manitoba. Puck drop at 3 p.m. CT.
