CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos were unable to stop the streaking Saskatchewan Huskies in the second game of their doubleheader at the Jack Simpson Gym. Despite a determined effort to keep up with their rivals, the Dinos lost the game 91-70.

The Dinos drop to 8-6 while the Huskies rise to 10-4 in the Canada West standings.

Tonight's competition was characterized by the Huskies' offensive domination. Early in the game, they were able to edge out the Dinos for a 10 point lead while the Dinos would have to play catch up. In the third quarter, the Dinos closed the gap on the scoreboard with key shots. A three pointer by Bobbi Jo Colburn tied the game up at 49-49.

While the Dinos flirted with taking the lead, the Huskies would subdue them in the fourth quarter especially. They scored five out of their 13 threes in the fourth quarter, capitalized on Dinos' misses and turnovers, and ended the game with a 20 point lead.

For the Dinos, Bobbi Jo Colburn and Brianna Ghali lead the offensive charge with a combined 35 points. As a team, the Dinos made 25-54 field goals, 6-19 threes, 8 offensive rebounds, 20 defensive rebounds, 8 bench points, 10 assists, and 5 steals.

Calgary head coach Damian Jennings felt that his team made good decisions at the offensive end and put themselves in good defensive positions but that they ultimately "ran out of gas" against a strong Huskies team.

"For me, it was frustrating for the scoreline to be the scoreline just because I felt that we did such a good job at certain times but to protect the three point line against that level of talent consistently is always going to be tough," he said.

The Dinos are scheduled to face the Regina Cougars in the CKHS at the University of Regina on Jan. 27 and 28, while the Huskies will host the Mount Royal Cougars at the PAC next week.
