Lethbridge – In the front half of a home-and-home series, the Lethbridge Pronghorns held a lead heading into the fourth quarter but could not hold off their southern Alberta rival Calgary Dinos in the final quarter and were defeated 66-57.

An early fourth quarter run, pushed the Dinos ahead for good and their pressure stymied the 'Horns offense in the period. The major determining factor in the end was the Dinos ability to get to the free throw line as the Dinos were 22-25 from the free throw line, while the 'Horns only got to the line 15 times, making 11.

The loss drops the 'Horns record to 2-5 on the season, while the Dinos, who had their bye week last weekend, improve to 3-2.

Katie Hankins led the 'Horns with 11 points and Zoe Dahl chipped in with 10. Jessica Bachynski continued her strong play with a six point, 13 rebound night in the loss. For the Dinos, Bobbi Jo Colburn led all scorers with 16 points, while Michal Assaf came off the bench to score 13

Playing their final home game of the first semester, the 'Horns jumped out of the gates scoring the game's first six points and after the Dinos scored the next five, the scoring screeched to a halt. At the end of the quarter, the 'Horns held a slim 12-11 lead.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well, the 'Horns were 4-for-15 (26.7%) but the Dinos were a ice cold 12.5% (2-16). The Dinos saving grace in the opening quarter was their ability to get to the free throw line, going a perfect 7-for-7.

The tight back and forth play continued in the second quarter but the Dinos found their stroke after a tough opening ten minutes. The Dinos shot over 45% in the quarter and remained perfect from the charity stripe, hitting another six free throws and taking a 28-26 lead into the break. The 'Horns were a respectable 6-18 from the floor in the second.

For majority of the third quarter, the game remained a one possession game with the Dinos unable to create any distance between themselves and the 'Horns. With three minutes remaining in the quarter, Malayah Bruno came off the bench to the spark 'Horns to a 10-0 run, bookended by two Bruno buckets.

Heading into the final 10 minutes, the 'Horns held a 49-43 lead but that lead would be short lived. A 8-0 run of their own, spearheaded by full court pressure, the Dinos regained the lead only minutes into the fourth and held on for their third win of the season.

Game two of the home-and-home series will go Saturday night in Calgary, tip-off is slated for 5:00pm at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
