Cougars improve to 3-0 after rolling to big win over Lethbridge

The University of Regina's women's basketball team remains undefeated in Canada West play after a convincing 86-44 win over Lethbridge on Friday night in the Cougars' home opener at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Christina McCusker had a big game for the Cougars, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and scoring a team-high 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench. Charlotte Kot and Alyssia Kajati both finished close to double-doubles, as Kot had 13 points and nine rebounds while Kajati ended up with 12 points and eight boards.

Rookie guard Michaela Kleisinger also hit double figures in points for the Cougars, who improve their Canada West record to 3-0 with the win. Kleisinger connected on a pair of three-point attempts and finished with 10 points.

Danielle Fritzke was the bright spot for Lethbridge (0-3). The second-year guard was 5-for-7 from three-point range and led all players with 18 points.

It was all Cougars from the opening tip. Though the Cougars lost Kehlsie Crone just two minutes into the game after the veteran guard suffered a lower-body injury, they opened the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. The Cougars led 25-4 after one and held a 46-16 advantage at halftime, and removed any hope of a Lethbridge comeback with a 15-1 run that spanned most of the third quarter.

The Cougars will face Lethbridge again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
