Bobcats can't claw back against Cougars

BRANDON - The Brandon University women's basketball team got behind early and could not claw their way back against the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at the Healthy Living Centre and fell 64-48 against the seventh ranked team in the CIS.

It was back and forth to start with the contest tied 6-6, but the Cougars caught fire and outscored the Bobcats 19-3 and went into the break with a 37-23 advantage.

Brandon tried to bounce back after the break and trimmed the deficit down to 10 late in the fourth quarter, but Regina regained momentum to move their record to 2-and-0 to start the Canada West season.

Charlotte Kot led the winners with a game-high 20 points, while Alyssia Kajati posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars.

Keisha Cox collected a team-high 16 points for Brandon, while adding five rebounds and four steals.

Alyssa Montgomery was next with 15 points for the Bobcats, who are 0-and-2 to start their conference campaign.

The BU women's basketball team is on the road next weekend when they visit the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The Cougars will have a bye-weekend.
