Team effort propels WolfPack to win

Prince George, BC - Third quarter burst led the visiting Thompson Rivers University WolfPack to a 62-44 win over the UNBC Timberwolves. The WolfPack advance to 10-1 while the Timberwolves fall to 1-10.

A true team effort was key in the WolfPack's win at the Northern Sport Centre on Friday night. Four players hit double digits with Michelle Bos (Surrey, BC) adding a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jorry Duxburry (Salmon Arm, BC) also chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds, while Taiysa Worsfold (Kamloops, BC) and Emma Piggin (Kamloops, BC) added 11 points each.

The Timberwolves were led by second year forward Jasprit Nijjar (Vancouver, BC). Nijjar put up 10 points and six rebounds. Fellow second year forward Emily Aase (Prince George, BC) added energy and a strong defensive presence with 3 blocks and 3 rebounds off the bench.

The Timberwolves went into the break down 27-21, after a closely contested first half. But a slow start to the third quarter allowed the WolfPack a 16-6 run, one in which they wouldn't look back from. Back-to-back three pointers from Michelle Bos (Surrey, BC) and Jorri Duxbury (Salmon Arm, BC) provided the WolfPack with a 14 point lead three minutes into the quarter. And Taiysa Worsfold (Kamloops, BC) put up a late three pointer to put the WolfPack up 20. Both teams kept quiet in the fourth, eventually finishing 62-44.

Both the TRU WolfPack and the UNBC Timberwolves return to action again tomorrow night at the Northern Sports Centre. The game is set to tip off at 5 p.m. and will be streamed live at canadawest.tv.
