Spartans even weekend series against Bobcats

BRANDON – The Trinity Western Spartans turned the table on the host Bobcats Saturday night, earning a 49-45 win, and a split in the weekend series.

A realtively low-scoring affair, the game was tied 22-22 at the half-time break.  The third quarter saw lots of turnovers and very little offense in the first eight minutes, but both teams turned it on late in the game. The contest was tied at 41-41 with just over 2 minutes left, but Trinity ended the game on a 8-4 run to secure the victory.

Neither team was particularly efficient when it came to shooting the ball. Trinity Western shot 17-for-57 (29.8 percent), while Brandon went 19-for-59 (32.2 percent)

Both teams struggled to score from beyond the arc, as the Spartans went 1-for-13 as a team while the Bobcats went 1-for-10.

Jessie Brown led all scorers, putting up 12 points for the Spartans. Laurissa Weigl had 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.

Mikaela Stanton had a team-high 10 points for the Bobcats, while Alyssa Montgomery had a game-high 10 boards.

The win improves Trinity Western's record to 4-4 while Brandon falls to 3-5.

Up next for the Spartans is a weekend series against the Calgary Dinos, while the Bobcats close out the first half of the Canada West regular season on the road against the Regina Cougars.
