Wierks sets the tone as Cascades complete weekend sweep of T-Wolves

The University of the Fraser Valley women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of the UNBC Timberwolves, beating the visitors from Prince George 81-57 on Saturday.

Fifth-year centre Sarah Wierks set the tone for the Cascades (4-0), notching a double-double with 21 points (8-of-15 shooting from the field, 5-of-5 from the free throw line), 11 rebounds and five assists.

Nataliia Gavryliuk chipped in with 17 points for UFV, while Celeste Dyck came off the bench to post 12 points and five assists.

Vasilila Louka was the top performer for the T-Wolves (0-4), registering a double-double of her own with 13 points and 11 boards. Mavia Nijjer (12 points) also scored in double figures.

Both UFV and UNBC shot just under 40 per cent from the field, but the Cascades hoisted 20 more shot attempts (77-57), due in large part to their ability to take care of the basketball. UFV turned the ball over just 16 times, compared to 28 for the T-Wolves.

On the weekend of Nov. 21-22, the Cascades hit the road to face the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack while the T-Wolves seek their first wins of the regular season vs. the Mount Royal Cougars at home.
