REGINA – The Regina Cougars led wire-to-wire in a 93-67 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
 
Nicole Clarke led the charge from the perimeter with six three-pointers, while Kehlsie Crone matched her career high with four and Madi Docherty added three.
 
Clarke ended up with 27 on Saturday to lead all scorers for the second night in a row. Three other Cougars hit double figures in scoring, including Janine Guijt and Crone with 14 apiece.
 
Both Stephanie Kleysen and Megan Noonan hit the 20-point mark for the Wesmen. Kleysen led Winnipeg in scoring for the fifth straight game with 22 points, while Noonan added 20 points.
 
The Cougars (12-2) will be back in action on the road at Manitoba next weekend, while Winnipeg will prepare for a home-and-home with Brandon.

KAMLOOPS, BC — The Thompson Rivers WolfPack came up with a gutsy effort but fell short in the fourth quarter.  The ‘Pack dropped a second straight game to the visiting Fraser Valley Cascades at the Tournament Capital Centre, 75-67.

The WolfPack fall to 7-7 on the season, with the Pacific Division-leading Cascades 10-4.

Fraser Valley's Kayli Satori scored 17 points, while Nicole Wierks chipped in with 13.

For TRU, Kassie Colonna had 22 points. Taiysa Worsfold had 20 points and  11 rebounds.

The WolfPack travel to Langley next weekend (Jan 24-25) to face the Trinity Western Spartans. Fraser Valley will be home to the UBCO Heat (Jan 24-25).

Calgary 58 #4 Saskatchewan 49

Huskies-Dinos Stats

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos became just the second team to defeat the #4 Saskatchewan Huskies this season when they won 58-49 on Saturday at Jack Simpson Gym.

The Dinos snapped the Huskies eight-game win streak while Calgary improved to 11-3 in arguably their biggest win of the season.

Tamara Jarrett led the way for the Dinos for a second night with 20 points and five rebounds. Point guard Kristie Shiels and Ashley Hirons both scored 11 for the Dinos.

For Saskatchewan, Dalyce Emmerson was the star with 15 points and a game-high 26 rebounds. Kiera Lyons had another eight points for the Huskies.

The Dinos head north to face provincial rivals, the #3 Alberta Pandas, next weekend in a doubleheader. Saskatchewan will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – For the second night in a row, the #3 Alberta Pandas proved to be too much for the Lethbridge Pronghorns to handle and completed the road weekend sweep on Saturday with a 75-60 win.
 
Saskia Van Ginhoven led the way for the Pandas with 17 points while Kendra Asleson chipped in with 10 points. For the Pronghorns, post Kim Veldman led all scorers with 20 points, while first-year guard Sara Simovic and Katlyn Olsen each had 13 point nights.
 
The ‘Horns fall to 5-9 on the season, while the Pandas continue to roll, pushing their win streak to 11 games and improve to 12-2.
 
The task doesn't get any easier for the ‘Horns next weekend as they travel to Saskatoon to face the $3 Saskatchewan Huskies. The Pandas will return home next weekend and host the Calgary Dinos for a pair.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars lost to the UBC Thunderbirds 67-59 on Saturday.

Kris Young led the way for UBC with 20 points. Young was followed closely by Harleen Sidhu, as she netted 19 points. Jordan McLean and Alicia Tan both led the way for Mount Royal with 17 points each.

Mount Royal now holds a record of 1-13. UBC goes to 9-5.

The Thunderbirds will be home next weekend for two games against UNBC starting on Friday January 24th.

The Cougars are off to Victoria next Friday where they will open up a weekend series against the first place Victoria Vikes.

Vikes-Timberwolves Stats

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - A strong first quarter gave the Victoria Vikes a comfortable lead that they maintained on Saturday. The Vikes move to 9-5 after a 67-54 win over the UNBC Timberwolves, now 4-10.

Guard Shaylyn Crisp and forward Jenna Bugiardini led the Vikes with 14 points each. Sarah Semeniuk was instrumental in the Vikes early lead, netting nine of her 10 points in the first quarter.

Fifth-year guard Mercedes VanKoughnett led scoring with 26 points. Emily Kaehn added 12 points to the Timberwolves' total.

Victoria will returns home to host the Mount Royal Cougars next weekend. Games are set for Friday January 25 and Saturday, January 25.

BRANDON, MB – The Brandon Bobcats picked up the program's first weekend sweep at home since joining the Canada West conference, and got its fifth win of the season over the visiting Manitoba Bisons 57-49 on Saturday night.
 
The win moves Brandon to 5-9 on the season, which marks the first time the Bobcats have got more than four wins in a season since 1984.
 
Stephanie Haynes and Cassie Cooke both put up double-doubles for the Bobcats, Cooke putting up a game-high 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds while Haynes added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The loss drops Manitoba to 3-11 on the season.
 
Up next for the Bobcats is a home and home series with the Winnipeg Wesmen with a home-game at home on Thursday and at the U of W on Saturday. The Bisons will welcome the Regina Cougars for a weekend series at the University of Manitoba.

KELOWNA, BC - A late charge fuelled by a successful full court pressure defense was not enough to overcome an early deficit as the UBC Okanagan Heat fell to the visiting Spartans in a 59-50 result Saturday night to split the weekend.

Once again second-year Kayla McFadden had a solid night, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Ahead of her was third-year guard Emily Kanester with a team-high 15 points on 6-9 shooting.

Fifth-year guard Holly Strom, the Spartans' leading scorer in last night's matchup, did not play in Saturday's game, but her void was more than filled with the performance of Janelle Traber, who scored a game-high 18 points while also recording eight rebounds and three assists. Rookie Kayla Gordon chipped in 12 points and six rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

The Heat are now 3-11 for the season and the Spartans improve to 3-11.

The Heat hit the road to the Fraser Valley next weekend to square off against the Cascades. Tip-off Friday night is 6 p.m. at the Envision Athletic Centre. While the Spartans play host to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Led by a stellar defensive effort in the first half, the CIS #3 Alberta Pandas pushed their win streak to 10 games with a 77-55 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
 
Renee Byrne led the way for the Pandas with 16 points and always reliant on a balanced attack, Kendra Asleson was the lone other Panda to hit for double digits, chipping in with 14 points off the bench. The Pandas had 10 players register at least two points.
 
For the ‘Horns Ali Cameron led all scorers 19 points, while the conference's second leading scorer Kim Veldman was held well below her season average of 20.7 points, but had a 12 point, eight rebound night.
 
With the win the Pandas improve to 11-2 on the season and move a second place tie in the Prairie Division with the Regina Cougars. The loss snaps the ‘Horns modest two game winning streak and they fall to 5-8.
 
Game 2 of the weekend series will go on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on http://canadawest.tv.

REGINA - The Regina Cougars needed a late surge to shake off an upset bid by the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday as the Cougars won 75-70 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The win improves the U of R's record to 11-2 on the year.
 
Nicole Clarke ended up 10-for-21 from the field – including 4-for-12 from three-point land – and led all players with 29 points, her highest offensive output as a Cougar. She also added seven assists and six rebounds for the U of R, while Charlotte Kot scored 13 and added 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
Stephanie Kleysen had a big double-double for Winnipeg, scoring 19 points and pulling down 18 rebounds. Nine of her rebounds were of the offensive variety and Kleysen also had three assists and three steals in the upset bid. Megan Noonan added 16 points for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg drops to 6-7 on the season and remains four games back of Calgary for the fourth and final Prairie Division post-season berth.
 
The two teams will meet again on Saturday at the CKHS. They'll tip off at 5:00 p.m.

CALGARY – The #4 Saskatchewan Huskies scored 29 points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Calgary Dinos 73-58 on Friday at Jack Simpson Gym.

The loss is Calgary's third of the season, and the first since the beginning of November for a 10-3 record. The Huskies improve to a Canada West best 12-1 record and extend their win streak to eight games.

Tamara Jarrett led the Dinos in points with 12 on the night. Both Ashley Hirons and Kristie Shiels recorded another 11 for Calgary.

For the Huskies, Dalyce Emmerson proved why she's one of the best players in the league, scoring 31 points and recording 14 rebounds. Riley Humbert added 13 more. Both Kabree Howard and Kiera Lyons recorded 11 more for Saskatchewan.
 
The Huskies will take on the Dinos again on Saturday at 5 p.m. for the rematch.

KAMLOOPS, BC - The Thompson Rivers WolfPack started slow out of the gate and wound up falling to the visiting Fraser Valley Cascades 75-41 on Friday, a battle of two of the top teams in the Pacific Division.

Fraser Valley moves to a division leading 9-4 following the victory, while the WolfPack fall to 7-6.

UFV's Aiesha Luyken scored 16 points, while Sara Wierks added 13. TRU was led by Kassie Colonna's 11 points. Sarah Malate had 10 points.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at the Tournament Capital Centre. Tip off is 5 pm.

KELOWNA, BC - It was all-hands on deck as the UBC Okanagan Heat held off a resilient Trinity Western Spartans team for a 67-62 victory on Friday.
 
Second-year post Kayla McFadden had a motivating 14-point, nine-rebound night. Third-year guard Emily Kanester was the team's leading scorer with15 points.
 
The win is the third on the year for UBC Okanagan as they see their record climb to 3-10, meanwhile the Spartans drop their second straight and own a 2-11 record.
 
It was fifth-year guard Holly Strom leading the charge for the Spartans, going for a game-high 16 points alongside eight rebounds.
 
Saturday night the Heat will play their ‘Shoot for the Cure' annual game versus this same Trinity Western squad. The game will tip-off at 5 p.m. in Kelowna after a ceremonial tip with the Wilson CIS Shoot for the Cure pink ball.

Vikes-Timberwolves Stats

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Victoria Vikes took an early lead forcing the Timberwolves to play catch up. At the end of 40 minutes the Vikes advance to 8-5 after a 79-69 win over the now 4-9 UNBC Timberwolves.

Casandra Goodis led the Vikes in scoring, netting 16 points, 11 of which were second half points. Jessica Renfrew opened up early starting the visitors on their 11-0 run at the beginning of the game. The fourth-year forward finished with 15 points.

The Timberwolves were led by fifth-year players Mercedes VanKoughnett and Emily Kaehn. VanKoughnett showed up in the second quarter with three consecutive baskets from behind the arc, totalling 17 points all in the first half. Kaehn worked in the key sealing out the defender to net 17 of her own.

The Vikes and the Timberwolves will both return to the Northern Sport Centre for their second of two this weekend on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. , live at http://canadawest.tv.

BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats made it two in a row with a 70-51 win over the visiting Manitoba Bisons on Friday.
 
The 19-point margin of victory is the largest for the Bobcats women's basketball team since joining the Canada West conference.
 
Cassie Cooke increased her lead in the CIS scoring race, finishing the contest with a game-high 34 points. This marks the seventh time this season Cooke has scored 30-plus points in a Canada West conference game.
 
Cooke finished the contest with eight assists and seven rebounds, while the Bisons were led by Alison Balasko who put up a double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds).  Vanessa Devries was just shy of a double-double, contributing eight points and 11 rebounds.
 
The win improves Brandon's record to 4-9, which ties the most wins by Brandon in a season since 2003-04 when the ‘Cats went 4-16 in conference play. Manitoba falls to 3-10.
 
The two teams will meet again Saturday to conclude the weekend series. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

CALGARY – The Mount Royal Cougars lost to the UBC Thunderbirds 67-55 on Friday at Kenyon Court.

Kris Young scored a game high 27 points for the Thunderbirds while teammate Harleen Sidhu scored 12. Carrie Campbell added 17 points for the Cougars.
