REGINA – Tim Dobbert's 20 kills led Thompson Rivers to a three-set victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in Canada West men's volleyball action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Dobbert's 20 kills came on just 28 attacks, and with only four errors the outside hitter finished with a .571 hitting percentage in the win. For good measure, Dobbert also added a match-leading 10 digs to collect a double-double.

The wild first set saw Thompson Rivers (4-11) lead by as much as seven points as late as 18-11 in the set, but the Cougars mounted a furious comeback that saw 5-0 and 4-0 surges with both Michael Corrigan and substitute Eric Robb staying at the service line for extended runs. In total, it was a 13-4 run for Regina capped by back-to-back Matthew Aubrey service aces that put the Cougars up 24-22, but that would be the high point of the match for the U of R. TRU escaped both of the Regina set points, then the WolfPack made good on their second attempt at set point after a Regina attack was hit long.

It was all TRU after that. Thompson Rivers led from wire to wire in a 25-20 second-set victory, then dominated the third by hitting .545 as a team en route to a 25-12 rout that clinched the WolfPack's fourth Canada West win of the season.

Besides Dobbert's offensive exploits, Joshua Mullaney also hit double digits in kills for the visitors with 12. Setter Anton Napolitano had 38 assists and nine digs while controlling an offence that hit .274 in the win, with libero Landon Currie chipping in with eight digs.

Conal McAinsh led Regina (1-14) with five kills on just seven attacks.

The two teams will lead off the doubleheader on Saturday night (5:00) at the CKHS.
