BRANDON - The Brandon University Bobcats came out strong during the first two sets, faltered in the third, but came back with a vengeance in the fourth to secure the victory over the University of Regina Cougars Saturday night (25-13, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16).
The Bobcats dominated the first two sets, but the Cougars managed to hold on in in the third in order to force the fourth set. Both teams traded blows until second-year Joel Makara served eight points in a row, chipping in two service aces, to help clinch the win for the 'Cats.
For the second straight night Sebastien Steigmeier led the way for the Bobcats with a match-high 21 kills on 37 swings, earning him an impressive .514 attack percentage for the match. He also added nine digs and five blocks. Roy Ching added nine kills, seven digs and three blocks. David Stastica had a game-high 39 assists and 10 digs for the 'Cats.
Steve Carston notched nine kills, five digs, and two blocks to lead the Cougars. Andre Borgeaud added seven kills and ten digs. Libero Jacques Borgeaud had a match-high 12 digs for the Cougars.
The win brings Brandon's record to 11-3, while the Cougars fall to 1-14
Both teams now enter the December break before resuming Canada West league play in January.
