Bobcats overpower Cougars in Brandon

BRANDON – The Brandon Bobcats got a late scare from the Regina Cougars in the third set, but that was all the visitors could muster as Brandon got a 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 24-26, 25-16) Friday night.

The Brandon Bobcats took control of the first two sets, jumping to early leads and maintaining them throughout the sets.  Facing match point at 24-23, the Cougars battled back and managed to force a fourth set in extra points. The Bobcats made quick work of the Cougars in the fourth set.

Sebastien Steigmeier earned a double-double for Brandon, notching 18 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks. Sam Tuivai added 12 kills, five digs, and three blocks. David Stastica had a game-high 51 assists for Brandon.

Andre Borgeaud led the Cougars with 12 kills, eight digs, and one block. Noah Miller added 11 kills and one dig. Jaques Borgeaud had a game-high 16 digs for the Cougars.

The win brings Brandon's record to 10-3, while Regina falls to 1-12.

The teams will face off again Saturday night at 6:45. The game will take place at Brandon University's Healthy Living Centre.
