Dinos complete Cougar sweep

CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos swept the visiting Regina Cougars with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-13) win on Nov. 15 at Jack Simpson Gymnasium.

The Dinos now improve to 5-7 while the Cougar slip to 1-9 on the season.

Calgary's Braden O'Toole scored a game-high 16 kills in the match, the only player on the court to hit double digits. Setter Jackson Maris had 26 assists and a game-high 11 digs for the Dinos. Libero Matt Saunders picked up another eight digs in the three-set match.

For the Cougars, Andre Borgeaud led the way with eight kills, followed by Noah Miller with seven more. Lbiero Jacques Borgeaud added a team-high seven digs and setter Dalton Wolfe recorded 21 assists.

The first set saw the Dinos lacking energy, allowing the Cougars to take a comfortable four-point lead throughout the beginning of the set. It wasn't until the final points that the Dinos picked up the pace and closing the gap. At 21-20, Calgary finally tied it to battle it out for the final points. When the Dinos took a 25-24 lead, Regina called a timeout, but it was too late as Calgary came up with a huge block to end the set and take the first one 26-24. O'Toole led all players with six kills after the first.

The second and third sets were lack lustre as the Dinos pushed through, firing on all cylinders. Regina wasn't able to find an answer from O'Toole's dominance from the right-side. Calgary easily defeated the Cougars by a score of 25-13 in the final two sets to complete the sweep.

The Dinos take a week off before heading out to Langley, B.C. to face the Trinity Western Spartans, Nov. 28-29. They will host the Mount Royal Cougars in their last home game before the break.
