Bobcats earn weekend sweep

BRANDON - Volleyball fans were treated to a five-set thriller on Saturday night with the Bobcats outlasting their provincial rivals the Manitoba Bisons 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-8).

The Bobcats came out strong in the first set and outmuscled the Bison despite going into extra points, but we unable to maintain their intensity throughout the second set. They managed to salvage the third set despite the Bisons going on a seven point run early on. The 'Cats couldn't contain Manitoba in the fourth, but the fifth was all Bobcats, securing the set and the match. 

Fifth-year Sebastien Steigmeier dominated the Bobcat offence with a double-double notching 23 kills and 11 digs. He also put up five blocks. Sam Tuivai chipped in 18 kills and 11 digs for a double-double of his own. David Stastica notched a match high 58 assists.

The Bisons were led by Devren Dear who had 19 kills and six digs. Adam DeJonckheere added a double-double with 16 kills, 12 digs, and four blocks. 

The win brings the Bobcats to 8-2, while the Bison fall to 6-6.

Next weekend, the Bobcats will travel to Trinity Western to battle the Spartans and the Bisons will take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack at home.
