Cougars lose in three to Mount Royal

The University of Regina's men's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Mount Royal on Sunday afternoon in the back end of a weekend set at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Mount Royal won by scores of 25-10, 27-25, and 25-18 to improve its Canada West record to 7-3 and record its sixth consecutive conference victory.

Tyler Schmidt and Jordan Parkin both had 12 kills for Mount Royal, with Parkin hitting a match-high .550 and adding six digs. Grigor Kartev had eight kills, five blocks, and a .538 hitting percentage, while Samuel Brisbane led all players in both assists (35) and digs (9). Mount Royal hit .359 as a team in the win, including .444 in the second set alone.

Andre Borgeaud and Steve Carston provided the bulk of the offence for the Cougars (1-7), as Borgeaud finished with 13 kills and Carston ended up with 12. Rookie setter Dalton Wolfe didn't start, but came off the bench to collect 29 assists for the U of R.

The Cougars will now prepare for a pair of road matches at Calgary (3-7), while Mount Royal will host Trinity Western (6-2).
