‘Pack earn weekend sweep with five-set thriller

BRANDON - Volleyball fans were treated to a five-set thriller in Brandon Saturday night as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack edged out the Brandon Bobcats (25-19, 27-25, 19-25, 23-25, 15-13).

Thompson Rivers came out swinging in the first two sets, but Brandon clawed back in the third and fourth sets, refusing to give up. Both teams fought it out in the fifth, with the 'Pack narrowly edging out the 'Cats in the fifth 15-13.  

Sam Tuivai had 20 kills, eight digs and three services to pace the Bobcat attack.  Sebastien Steigmeier added 19 kills, four digs, and four services aces. Fourth-year setter David Stastica notched a game-high 47 assists.

Brad Gunter paved the way for the 'Pack earning a double-double with 25 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks.  Winnipeg product Randy Grundmann added 10 kills and three digs

The loss brings the Bobcats to 6-2, while the WolfPack improves their record to 3-7.

Next weekend, the Bobcats will host the University of Manitoba Bison and the WolfPack will welcome the Winnipeg Wesmen to the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops.
