Wolfpack best the Bobcats in straight sets

BRANDON – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack showed how records don't mean much early in the season, and that anyone can win in the ultra-competitive Canada West conference Friday night by upsetting the #4 Brandon Bobcats in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 26-24).

The 'Pack stormed out of the gate early and didn't let up, controlling the match through-out. Brandon mounted a late comeback in the third set, forcing set point at 24-23, but Thompson Rivers put an abrupt end to that, and the match, by rattling off three straight points to conclude the night.

Sam Tuivai paced the Bobcat attack with 13 kills, five digs, and two blocks.  Sebastien Steigmeier added 12 kills, 5 digs, and one service ace.

The 'Cats struggled to find their footing all evening and had only three players ending the evening with a positive attack percentage.

Brad Gunter led the 'Pack notching 14 kills, nine digs, and one block. Casey Knight added 12 kills, five digs, and a match-high six blocks to help his team clinch their second victory of the season.

The loss brings the 'Cats to 6-1, while the 'Pack climb to 2-7.

The two teams will face off again Saturday at the Brandon University HLC. First serve is scheduled for 6:45 pm.
