Winnipeg claims weekend sweep over Cougars

The University of Winnipeg Wesmen won in three sets over the Regina Cougars for the second consecutive night on Saturday, winning 25-20, 25-16, and 25-18 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
 
Winnipeg (5-1) was led by its usual suspects, with Casey Schouten leading all players with 14 kills and Thomas Douglas-Powell collecting 12 kills while hitting at a match-high .611 clip. Douglas-Powell and setter Joshua McKay both had five digs, while McKay dished out 37 assists and Brendan Black led Winnipeg at the net with four blocks.
 
The Wesmen hit an impressive .486 as a team, ending up with 43 kills and just eight errors on 72 attacks.
 
Andre Borgeaud and Steve Carston both had five kills for the Cougars, who fall to 0-4 with the loss. Rookie setter Michael Corrigan (pictured) got his first career start and finished with 20 assists, while Jacques Borgeaud had eight of the U of R's 16 digs in the match.
 
The Cougars will prepare for a weekend set in Kamloops, B.C. against Thompson Rivers next Friday and Saturday, while Winnipeg will head into its bye week before resuming conference play on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8.
