COUGARS COMEBACK TO BEAT MACEWAN 3-1

Calgary – After dropping the first set the Cougars battled back to win three straight in a row and take the match 3-1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 27-25). Jordan Parkin led the Cougars with 14 kills on the night.

The Cougars struggled mightily in the first set and let MacEwan walk all over them early. The Griffins had 15 kills alone in the first set, the Cougars only 11. Mount Royal never led in the first set as MacEwan took it wire-to-wire to win 25-18.

The Cougars picked it up in a big way in the second set holding the Griffins to only 7 attack points in the second set. Mount Royal never trailed and won the set 25-15 to square the match at one set apiece.

Set three was much more even. The Cougars controlled the pace but MacEwan stayed hot on their heels. Attack errors are what ended up hurting the Griffins as they committed six in the set to lose 25-22.

Despite being outplayed for much of the fourth set the Cougars were able to hold a slim lead throughout. Tied at 25 the Griffins served it into the next giving Mount Royal a chance for the win. MacEwan sent it out of bounds and the Cougars won set 27-25 and match 3-1.

The Cougars improve to 2-3 with the victory. MacEwan remains winless at 0-5.

The weekend series will continue tomorrow when both teams meet on Kenyon court at 6:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
