WINNIPEG - In a match between cross-town rivals, the Manitoba Bisons upended the Winnipeg Wesmen 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-22) in the opening regular season matches for both teams on Thursday in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium at the Duckworth Centre.

Devren Dear led the Bisons with 17 kills and a match high 10 defensive digs. Adam DeJonckheere was next with 11. Setter Luke Herr had 43 assists and nine defensive digs.

Fourth-year outside Tom Douglas-Powell led the Wesmen with a match high 19 kills. Casey Schouten added 12. Setter Josh McKay finished with 34 assists, eight digs and five blocks.

The teams won't have much time to rest as they will meet Friday at the University of Manitoba, starting at 8:15 p.m. and live on http://canadawest.tv.
